I’m going to get my “vegan” tattooed covered soon, and everyone seems to think it’s because I regret it.
Or that I’m no longer vegan.
I’m getting it covered because I don’t feel like it’s necessary to advertise all the time anymore. I don’t really want my identity reduced to a dietary choice…

INTERMIX sells fur from China, where dog pelts are frequently unlabeled and mixed in with others (2,000,000 dogs & cats die annually in China for the fur trade).
If this doesn’t bother you, don’t sign the petition.
Oh look, Tumblr once again bands together to save ONLY THE CUTE ANIMALS. Of course this is TERRIBLY fucked. But I swear to God, I hate hearing people cry about all the CUTE kitties and puppies getting abused while they sit there and eat their hamburger. Don’t just defend the housepets. All animals deserve better than this.
^^This. I have eaten dog and horse meat, and have been chided by non-vegetarians for doing so. You can’t try to make me feel guilty for eating a dog when you’re sitting there enjoying your chicken. Shut the fuck up, hypocrites.
That being said, there is a bit of difference between killing an animal for food and killing an animal for clothing. Vegetarian food is not always available, but non-animal-derived clothing usually is. In the former case, I recognize that it is healthier for me to eat meat rather than bread, rice, or pasta (carbs, man), and therefore it boils down to a matter of survival.Of course the suffering of these animals bothers me. I stopped eating dog meat because I discovered the cruel methods used to slaughter them for food. I am currently unemployed and living at home, and I cannot afford to purchase free-range meat, eggs, or milk. I would do something about the suffering of animals if I could, but I can’t. I do what I can to raise awareness of animal rights, but I do not deny my own complicity in the infringing of said rights. What am I to do when the agricultural system sells cruelty-free products at a much higher price and makes them less available? I feel so helpless.

Eating vegetarian != eating more refined carbohydrates. There is no reason eating meat would be healthier than not except laziness. If you learn to cook and apply a little due diligence (apparently you have the time to do so if you’re unemployed) you can actually eat cheaper and healthier as a vegetarian. Legumes, produce, and whole grains are not more expensive than meat.
Or, eat meat. Most people do. Just don’t make these weak-ass excuses for it while pretending to be concerned about the suffering at the factory farms your dollars are supporting. Are dogs raised for meat really treated any worse than factory farmed cows, pigs, and chickens? If you’re as morally-consistent as your chiding of another’s concern hypocrisy suggests, they must be. However, I doubt it, based on what I know about the way those farms operate.
There is nothing but your own inaction making you helpless here.
